coloured pencils and a felt bird

I found a packet of coloured pencils in my stationary drawer today.

My friend Josh sent me a packet of fold-together box speakers, the ones that you are supposed to decorate yourself.. they come complete with a little packet of colouring pencils. Such a great gift! I love the whole concept of being able to draw all over these cute little cubes.. however every time I attempt to draw on them.. I draw a blank.. I find blank canvases quite intimidating! So my speakers are still the plain paper bag brown colour they arrived with.. no decorations.. aww.. so instead I have used the pencils to draw the fist colourful thing I spotted on my desk today.. my felt bird broach, a gift from my sister Hannah a while back. A warm up for the speakers.

phone sketch

Sound sketchy? Well its not.. I like to draw while I am on the phone, amazing how my brain uses sketching as a tool for remembering details during phone conversations.. so if you are ever talking to me and I am drawing away - I'm not bored, most likely deeply pondering our conversation... its only if I don't answer your questions back that you need to worry. I think I'd like to make this one into a nice painting.

icecream

It sure is hot in Melbourne... all I want is ice cream, obviously.

Zombie talk

World Zombie Day - what a concept! Anyway I was inspired tonight by some photos that I saw from this wonderful event - and from my lovely friend Richard who likes to talk Pirate sometimes, so I thought I would share my interpretation of the zombie love language.

Seth

So I never knew how great it is to draw beards. I had the privilege of sketching my new friend Seth for a few minutes during my illustration class last week, he has a beard, and I really must emphasize again how much fun it was drawing it. In fact It was so great that I even said out loud "wow, I love drawing beards" a number of times - I'm pretty sure that I sounded like a total beard addict weirdo (I must be picking this up from my beard obsessed sister Kate) - but really, it was fun. So if your friends have beards - draw them. Also if any bearded friends of mine would like a portrait - I'm your girl.

shoes

Ahh sweet flat shoes, oh how I love them.

In fact I love them so much that today I decided to do a quick sketch of my favourite pair. These were cheap and nasty, and they took me about 6 months to wear in. I even got a lecture from my chiropractor the last time I wore them to an appointment as they are apparently a little too 'flat'. But I love them all the same. The sad thing is they are about to get holes in the toe, and wear through the sole. Disastrous! Alas, an upgrade is imminent.
