shoes

Ahh sweet flat shoes, oh how I love them.

In fact I love them so much that today I decided to do a quick sketch of my favourite pair. These were cheap and nasty, and they took me about 6 months to wear in. I even got a lecture from my chiropractor the last time I wore them to an appointment as they are apparently a little too 'flat'. But I love them all the same. The sad thing is they are about to get holes in the toe, and wear through the sole. Disastrous! Alas, an upgrade is imminent.

The Lagoon

I really love water colour paintings, its the simplicity that always amazes me. The way an artist can capture a whole object shape or curve with just one stroke. Its beautiful. These paintings always have a dream like feel to them, feminine and flowy. Lovely.

So the other week as I was rummaging through a cupboard I came across an old 'Learn to paint set' that my mum bought ages ago, so I thought "hey, I should give this a go". So I did. It was in this attempt that I realised how flipping hard it is to capture those silly little curves with just one stroke, yes, just ONE stroke.. this medium is not forgiving.. if you stuff it, well, its stuffed. But I hope you like my piece, titled 'Across the lagoon' (Named by 'Art File' of course). So thanks Art File, may this be the first of many badly painted water colour attempts.

It's overworked that's for sure, but I have to admit I am having fun.

Sketch

So I am really trying to get myself back into the habit of drawing everyday.. which is a huge reason I am even doing this blog.. incentive or something.
Here's a quick sketch which made me realise that when it comes to any sort of realism that I am in desperate need of drawing lessons. seriously, the poor girl can't see straight!

boxes

Its cold outside. So today I thought I would post one of my paintings that reminds me of some of my warmer moments.. in particular my last Asian holiday in Bali. (why is it I feel dirty saying that? Yes, I like to holiday in Bali.. don't judge me). Anyhoo, the last time I was there I picked up these really lovely 'offering baskets' which work as great containers around the place. They're bright, colourful and best of all hand painted.
So it only makes sense that I should paint a picture of them with a quirky 'hand made' style.

Handbag

A few months ago I went shopping with my good friend Holly who is fantastic at finding second hand goods. The last time we went shopping together I managed to pick up a really cute grandma style vintage leather handbag.
Here is a sketch I drew of it yesterday. I used a fine liner and a really watered down Primary Red Artists Gauche. De-lightful.

In the begining

Well here we go.. the start of something new.. a blog. Why am I doing this? Well, let me tell you all about it..

I'm a freelance graphic designer, and in order to prevent my going completely crazy due to lack of creative output or input I have recently found myself wandering through many blog pages, enjoying reading the daily thoughts of random people, gaining insight and inspiration into the lives of other freelance and creative types. so here I am jumping on the band wagon.
The plan is that I will post up some of my most current commissioned and (best of all) non-commissioned work. So I hope to gain feedback on my work, maybe this will even open up the opportunity for me to work with some fresh creatives too.

Enjoy!
